Round one of the 2025 World Matchplay Darts Championship continues on Monday. At the Blackpool Winter Gardens, the sixth seed Chris Dobey takes on unseeded Ricardo Pietreczko. Can 'Hollywood' avoid a seeding upset? Read our match prediction
Chris Dobey reached the quarter-final of this tournament two years ago. The 35-year-old lost in the second round in last year's tournament. The winner of this match will take on either 11th seed Gerwyn Price (who recently beat Dobey in a European Tour semi-final) or unseeded Daryl Gurney in round two.
This match is being played over the best of 19 legs. Dobey is ranked sixth in the world and that's 23 places ahead of his German opponent. This year has seen Dobey reach the last four in the World Championships and win two Players Championship events.
Ricardo Pietreczko is playing in this tournament for only the second time. Last year, he lost to Luke Humphries in the first round. The 30-year-old made it to the last 16 in this year's World Championships.
He'll hope to do better this week than in his World Championships loss to Nathan Aspinall when averaging only 78.46. The same goes for the 6-1 loss he suffered against Dobey in April. We tip Dobey to win this on a -2.5 legs handicap.
