Chelsea are on a preseason tour of the USA and will be facing Wrexham in one of their scheduled training matches. Can Enzo Maresca start his Blues era on a winning note? Here’s a look at the numbers and a prediction for this match.

Courtesy of a good finish to a tough season, Chelsea will be back in European football, and it calls for good preps. They will be participating in the Conference League after a year out of continental football.

The man to lead Chelsea is Maresca, who earned promotion from the Championship with Leicester City. While in the USA, Chelsea will also face Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid. They’ll be looking to carry on with their strong run at the end of last season when they won five straight games to close the campaign.

Wrexham also had a powerful finish last season, going to secure promotion to League One. They won their final five matches and started in the same breath their preseason engagements. First on their list was a 5-1 win over Hanley Town then they impressed in their 1-1 draw with Premier League side Bournemouth.

Phil Parkinson is drilling a solid side at Wrexham and their half time lead against Bournemouth earned deserving plaudits. They actually had enough chances to win that encounter late on. Before they conclude their tour of the USA, Wrexham will also face Vancouver Whitecaps.

This will be the second meeting with Chelsea in two years. Last year, in another friendly match, Wrexham took a 5-0 beating from Chelsea and they’ll hope to do better this time.
