Week 1 at the 2026 Volleyball Nations League will see Brazil taking on Iran on Wednesday night. Canarinhos are unbeaten in the last decade against this opponent, which sees us firmly backing a victory for them here as our primary prediction.
Brazil kick off their 2026 VNL campaign as one of the favourites for the title. They beat Slovenia to the bronze medal last year and have the advantage of playing at home in Week 1 this year.
Canarinhos lost their last match 3-0 to Serbia at the World Championship, but their performance over the last year has been a major positive after a period of transition since the Tokyo Olympics.
Bernardo Rezende has no major injury concerns at present, with Lucarelli, Darlan Souza, Alan Souza and Fernando Cachopa all expected to be available for this match.
Meanwhile, Iran will be optimistic coming into this tournament, having enjoyed a solid VNL campaign in 2025, finishing ninth, and only narrowly missing out on the quarter-finals (9th place finish).
Team Melli followed up that performance by reaching the quarter-finals of the World Championship last September before bowing out to Bulgaria. They have split their last 10 matches in all competitions, five wins and five losses.
Iran have lost their last 14 matches against this opponent and failed to win a set in four of their last five encounters.

Our Brazil vs Iran Prediction
Iran were bitterly unlucky not to reach the quarter-finals of last year’s VNL, but their performance in the competition was mightily encouraging, and it will not surprise us if they do much better this time around.
Unfortunately for Team Melli, their opening match in this year's VNL is against an opponent they have not beaten in a decade, and who seem to have rediscovered their balance after a period of transition under Bernardo Rezende. Our Brazil vs Iran prediction is Brazil to win 1st set + match.
