Borac and Egnatia will kick off their 2024-25 Champions League qualifiers at Banja Luka City Stadium on Wednesday evening. The sides will then meet again next week for the second leg at Elbasan Arena on Tuesday. The winner of this tie will progress to the second round where they will face Greek champions PAOK.
Borac brought an end to a two-season wait to win back the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina title last season. They overcame Zrinjski by just two points in a title race that came down to the wire.
The Red-Blues ended the season with five wins and a loss on the final day, though it is worth noting that they had already locked up the title by then. Across the entire season, the side only suffered three defeats in 33 matches. They will now enter Champions League qualifying for just the third time in their history and have never got past the second round.
While their domestic league season came to an end in May, Borac have had decent preparation for this match, playing three friendlies in the last three weeks. They won the last two and drew the first, scoring two or more goals in each.
This is the first time that these sides will face each other in a competitive fixture.
Meanwhile, Egnatia continued their incredible rise to prominence last season by claiming their first-ever Kategoria Superiore title. They edged out Partizani by beating them 2-1 on the final day of the season.
Thus, this will also be the first time that the side will feature in Champions League qualifying and they could be a potential dark horse in the competition.
Unlike their opponents, though, Egnatia have only played one friendly during the offseason, which ended in a 2-2 draw against Ruzomberok on June 19. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the side are at full fitness in this one.
