Last season's surprise package Bologna will start their 2024-25 Serie A campaign with a home game against Udinese. This match will be played at the Stadio Dall'Ara on Sunday, and our prediction is that there could be goals from both teams.
It was a sensational season for Bologna last year, finishing fifth with 68 points. That saw them qualify for the Champions League for the first time in the club's history. Their success has come at a cost, though, as their manager of last season, Thiago Motta, left in the summer to join Juventus. There were also exits for key players at both ends of the pitch, as striker Joshua Zirkzee and defender Riccardo Calafiori left Italy to join Premier League clubs.
The new coach Vincenzo Italiano, has proven his worth at Fiorentina and will hope to replicate that success here. Bologna ended their previous campaign strongly, with five wins and three draws from their last nine home games. To extend that record, they will have to get past Udinese, a side that held Bologna to a 1-1 draw here last season.
That was only one of the few highlights as Udinese just about managed to stave off relegation last season, ending up two points above the bottom three. The visitors also went for a coach change in the summer, bringing in Kosta Runjaic, who oversaw a 4-0 win in the Coppa Italia tournament in the first competitive match of this season.
With both teams eager to start their new season on a high under new managers, this game could be a cagey encounter with action at both ends like the 1-1 draw here last season.
