Bolivia and Suriname will look to keep their 2026 World Cup hopes alive when they face off in the semi-final of the Interconfederation Playoffs on Thursday night at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe. The winner of this match between La Verde and Natio will meet Iraq in the Pathway 2 final on April 1. Check out our match prediction below!
Chasing a first FIFA World Cup appearance in over 30 years (1994), Oscar Villegas’ side kept their dream of reaching the 2026 edition of the global tournament alive on a dramatic final day of qualifying in September. Los Altiplanicos have featured in three World Cup campaigns in the past and could become the seventh CONMEBOL representative at this year’s competition.
Suriname have never been to the FIFA World Cup finals, with the closest brush coming during the qualifying campaign way back in the 1978 edition. With a population of just over half a million, Henk ten Cate’s team could make history this year by becoming the third-smallest nation to reach football’s grandest stage. Let’s get into the key stats!

Bolivia - Suriname: Form Analysis
Bolivia’s World Cup hopes looked to be all but over heading into the final round of the CONMEBOL qualifiers. However, a dramatic 1-0 victory over Brazil, coupled with Venezuela slipping up elsewhere, propelled them into the Playoff spot.
With that result, La Verde finished with 20 points in their 18 qualification matches (W6 D2 L10). They scored 17 goals but conceded 35, which was the most of the 10 teams in the tournament.
Bolivia notched up a 3-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly in March to end a six-match winless run (D1 L5). However, they have only won one of their last six away games in all competitions (D4 L2).
Five of Bolivia’s last six away games have ended with both teams scoring!
Meanwhile, after storming through the second and third rounds of the CONCACAF qualifiers unbeaten, Suriname got themselves in a prime position to clinch qualification on the final matchday.
Unfortunately, Natio fluffed their lines, losing 3-1 to an already-eliminated Guatemala on the road, which saw them finish on nine points (W2 D3 L1), three points shy of Group A winners Panama.
That result brought an end to the Green Guardians’ six-match winless run (W2 D4), a period during which they maintained three clean sheets. Suriname have now won only one of their last six away matches (D3 L2).

Bolivia & Suriname Squad Analysis
Bolivia will hope Miguel Terceros can carry his incredible form from their group-stage qualifying campaign into this match. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder finished with seven goals in the CONMEBOL qualifiers.
Enzo Monteiro and Ervin Vaca Moreno both suffered injuries that forced them off in that stunning victory over Brazil, but both have since returned to full fitness and should feature from the off in this match.
Only Lionel Messi scored more goals than Miguel Terceros in the CONMEBOL qualifiers!
Suriname’s greatest strength during the CONCACAF qualifiers was their defensive solidity, and at the heart of that was Etienne Vaessen, who recorded a remarkable 20 saves across the three rounds.
In attack, Go Ahead Eagles midfielder Richonell Margaret ended as Natio’s top-scorer with three goals, including a brace against El Salvador, and he should feature alongside Tjaronn Chery in the team’s engine room.
Ten Cate included two first-time call-ups for this competition in Leeds United forward Joel Piroe and centre-back Melayro Bogarde of LASK.
