Two high-flying sides Bayer Leverkusen and FC Cologne will square it out in the DFB Pokal quarter-finals. The one-legged match, hosted by Leverkusen will be played on Wednesday. Read on for our prediction.
Leverkusen, the current holders, eliminated Bayern Munich in the last round, winning 1-0 away from home. They carry into this game a three-match unbeaten run, having won the last two.
The most recent of those was a 3-1 home victory against Hoffenheim. Being six points behind Bayern in the league, this competition presents their realest chance of a trophy.
A run of nine straight home wins puts them on a confident footing. They are actually unbeaten in 16 home games.
Cologne started 2025 on a losing note but have since recovered. In the two matches coming after the defeat to Hamburg, they posted back-to-back wins.
The latest of them was a 2-1 away win at Eintracht Braunschweig. With their current run, Cologne are top of Bundesliga 2 2ith 37 points, two ahead of Hamburg after 20 matches.
In two of FC Cologne’s three matches in this competition, they needed post-match penalties to advance. In the only one that they didn’t need penalties, Cologne thumped Bundesliga side Holstein Kiel 3-0.
They haven't faced another top flight side and will be wary of the challenge this Leverkusen side carries.
