Barbora Krejcikova is scheduled to begin the defence of her Wimbledon title on Tuesday. Seeded only 17th this year, the Czech faces recent Eastbourne finalist Alexandra Eala in round one of this grass court tournament. Here's our match prediction.
It was a major surprise when Krejcikova won this grass court Grand Slam in 2024. It'd be the same again this year as the 28-year-old is a big outsider to retain her title. Injuries have limited her appearances this year with only six matches played.
Last week saw her survive five match points in two wins in Eastbourne. Then Krjecikova withdrew from the tournament due to injury. Hopefully she will be fit enough to take part in this tournament.
Alexandra Eala was also in the Eastbourne tournament and ended up being the runner-up. The 20-year-old became the first Filipino to reach a WTA Tour singles final but was beaten in straight sets by Maya Joint. That run has taken her to a career-high 56th in the live rankings.
Ten of her 14 grass court matches played this year have been won. This is her first time in the main draw at Wimbledon after losing in the qualifying rounds last year.
