For the fourth time in the competitions' last five editions, Barangay Ginebra and the Meralco Bolts will face off in the finals of PBA Governors’ Cup when game one of this best of seven series tips off on Wednesday. This must feel like a recurring nightmare for Bolts fans, as defending champions Barangay Ginebra have gone a perfect 3-0 against them in their recent finals faceoffs. Meralco will be desperate to finally break through and secure their first ever Governors’ Cup title but will have their work cut out for them against the Gin Kings who have proven to be their kryptonite over the years. Barangay Ginebra enter game one as slight favorites in what is sure to be an electric atmosphere at the Smart Araneta Arena.

The big question is whether or not Meralco will be affected mentally by the Kings recent dominance over them. The Bolts finished the regular season with a record of 7-4 and were able to overcome the top seeded Magnolia Hotshots 3-2 in the semi finals so confidence should be high. However, the Kings have peaked at the right time just as the playoffs began and are on a current run of six wins in their last seven games, only recording one loss in this year's playoffs. PBA legend Justin Brownlee will be crucial in this series as the four-time champion looks to add another jewel to his already immaculate career. His main rival will be Bolts import Tony Bishop in a matchup that could well decide the series.
