Match 2 at the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup brings us a battle of familiar foes, with Australia taking on New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium. The Southern Stars are the defending champions, while the White Ferns last won the title in 2000. Let’s get into the match prediction!
Australia enter the World Cup as the clear favourites to retain the title. They have won two of the last three editions of the competition and are gunning for an eighth world title.
The Southern Stars lost their warm-up match against England by four wickets on Sunday, which was only their second loss in their last 19 matches across all competitions.
The Aussies also beat India 2-1 in a three-match ODI series this month. The only other team they have lost to since the start of 2024 was South Africa.
Meanwhile, barring Australia and England, New Zealand is the only other team to have won a Women's World Cup, but that was over two decades ago.
The White Ferns come into the World Cup riding a four-match losing streak, with the most recent coming against India in a warm-up match on Saturday afternoon.
The New Zealanders lost three T20Is in a row to Australia in March and have not beaten them in any format of the game since February 2022.
