Aston Villa will on Wednesday begin their League Cup campaign by welcoming Premier League rivals Everton. The winner here will advance to the fourth round of the competition. Aston Villa are coming into this match off the back of a 1-0 success away to Chelsea in the league. The win continued their impressive start to the season. Villa have won six of their nine matches across all competitions this season and have scored 19 times in those six victories. The most impressive stat however is that the Villans have won 10 straight matches at home. Coupling this with their domination of this fixture recently, another win here is highly likely. Villa have won the last five meetings with Everton with three of their wins coming with them as hosts. The Lions have a blockbuster league match against Brighton coming up which should see some changes made to the squad here.

Everton have been defeated in this very round of the League Cup in the last two seasons. They will hope to not suffer the same fate in their search for a spark to turn around their campaign. Sean Dyche’s men have struggled in the early stages of the season and have lost four of seven matches played. The Toffees however do come to this match off the back of a 3-1 win away to Brentford in the league. Their second win of the season and the manner in which they achieved it, will have them fancying their chances at Villa Park. With a crucial home league match coming up against struggling Luton, Dyche could make a raft of changes here. He did so against Doncaster in the last round.
