Angers vs Marseille Prediction & Betting Tips - Ligue 1

3rd place Angers host 2nd place Marseille in Ligue 1. Angers lost their first match since mid-October at the weekend as they were beaten 3-1 in Nice. It was a rather disappointing performance from Les Scoïstes but a rare one and they’ll be hoping to get back on form at the Stade Raymond Kopa. Angers currently sit third in the table but have the second-best home record with just one loss in their eight league games there.  Despite conceding thrice against Nice, Angers have been very good defensively so far, with four consecutive clean sheets in the matches before the defeat to Patrick Vieira’s side. Les SCO need to improve at the top end of the pitch, though, as the goals that were so common at the start of the campaign have begun to dry up. They have just three in their last seven games in Ligue 1. Marseille will be stiff competition for Angers here as André Villas-Boas’ team has been in flying form recently, with four wins on the bounce carrying them up to second. The former Chelsea and Tottenham man found it difficult to get going at first but his team are now playing some great football and deservedly sit at the top end of the table.  

Les Olympiens have managed to show many aspects of their games in recent weeks, with wins coming against great opposition like Lyon and Lille, while also surpassing the slightly easier but sometimes tricky teams like Brest and Toulouse. In their win over Brest at the weekend, they created the second-most chances of any Ligue 1 team in a single match this season and this attacking prowess will have to be on show again if they want to beat a sturdy Angers side. Marseille have scored two goals in each of their last four matches and we feel this momentum will be enough to carry them past this Angers side. The hosts have solid home form this season but haven’t been as convincing in recent weeks at the Raymond Kopa, with rather underwhelming performances coming against far weaker teams than Marseille. They drew 1-1 with Amiens before losing 1-0 to Brest and with both these teams currently in the bottom six, there is room for improvement.
