An unseeded player will make their way into the last eight of the World Matchplay Darts Championship. Andrew Gilding from England faces Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode in a best-of-21-legs match.. Will 'Goldfinger' defeat his Dutch opponent? Read our match prediction.
Gilding is aged 54 and could face Luke Littler in the next round if the world champion beats Jermain Wattimena. He made his pro debut in 2011 when Littler was just four years old. Round one of this tournament saw him beat the seventh seed Damon Heta 12-10 with an average of 101.82.
A win over van Duijvenbode will take him into the quarter-finals of this tournament for the second year in a row. It's ten years since his best performance in one of the major PDC televised events. That was when he made it to the UK Open semi-finals.
This year has seen him get to the European Darts Grand Prix final and also four Players' Championship semi-finals.
Dirk van Duijvenbode beat tenth-seeded Rob Cross 10-8 in the first round achieving an average of 95.33. If he can get another win, he'll be in his second World Matchplay Darts Championship quarter-final. The other came three years ago. He failed to qualify in 2024.
We tip Gilding to win on a +2.5 legs handicap.
