Alizé Cornet vs Yanina Wickmayer Prediction & Betting Tips - Transylvania Open

Alize Cornet, qualifier, and the unseeded Yanina Wickmayer will square off in the first round at the Transylvania Open. A second-round showdown with either top seed Arantxa Rus or unseeded Greet Minnen will await the winner. Alize Cornet came from a set down to win her last qualifier against Jil Teichmann who was forced to retire late on. The Frenchwoman had not won in 2024 before arriving for her Cluj Napoca debut. She will be hoping to keep the momentum going and extend her record against Wickmayer. Cornet and Wickmayer have met each other five times before with the former winning on three occasions. This however is their first meeting since 2017. Advancing to the main draw here has moved the former world number 11 closer to returning to the WTA top 100. Cornet is now ranked 107th in the live ranking after making a three-place jump.

Yanina Wickmayer has dropped two places in the live ranking and is now placed at number 81. This is after a poor start to the year. The veteran Belgian has lost the two matches she has played so far. She began her campaign in Hobart and then proceeded to the Australian Open where she lost to Varvara Gracheva in straight sets. Wickamayer, a former top 20 player, had a strong season in 2023 while playing mainly outside the tour. She won 51 matches which is the first time in her long career that she has won as many matches in a season. Nineteen of her wins came on indoor hard courts and she will be hoping for another dominant showing. Wickmayer defeated Cornet the first and last time they went up against one another.
