World number 42 Alex Michelsen and the wildcard James McCabe will square off in the second round of the Australian Open. The winner of their second career meeting will take on Gabriel Diallo or Karen Khachanov for a place in the fourth round. Read on for our prediction of this match.
Alex Michelsen defeated 11th seed and former Australian Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round by four sets.
He is now one win away from equaling his best finish here achieved last season on his debut. The American has won four of six matches to start the season and has returned to 41st in the live ranking.
Michelsen eliminated McCabe in Melbourne last year in the first round.
James McCabe will look back to that 3-1 defeat to Michelsen to inspire him. The Australian, who made his major debut last season, is seeking to win back to back matches at a major for the first time.
The 24-year-old was more decisive in his opening round tie against the qualifier Martin Landaluce. He secured his maiden major victory in straight sets and subsequently shot up a massive 43 places to 215th in the live ranking.
McCabe has compiled a 2-2 record through his first four matches this season.

Our Alex Michelsen vs James McCabe Prediction
Our prediction for Alex Michelsen v James McCabe is for this match to have over 32 games. This is the second time Michelsen and McCabe are going toe to toe at the Australian Open. In the first battle, they dueled for close to three hours with Michelsen ending up as winner in four sets.
That contest saw 37 games played and we are expecting another lengthy battle as McCabe will be out for revenge. The two players are superb hardcourt performers but have shown inconsistencies in their play this season. Their lack of dominance could see a decider needed to separate them.
