Barcelona are going through a very shaky start to the season and will be hoping some sense of stability can come in when they travel to Estadio de Mendizorroza to take on Deportivo Alaves. Going to this game, both sides have seven points though hosts Alaves are 15th due to an inferior goal difference, and Barcelona 12th. Alaves registered their second win of the season in their last match, beating a 10-man Real Valladolid 2-0 away from home. In their last game last season, they faced Barcelona at this same venue and lost 5-0. They will be hoping it doesn’t happen again but their form this season hasn’t been the best. In their opening seven league games, they have already lost four but have three clean sheets whenever they have avoided defeat. In three of their last six league games they have conceded two goals or more and will really do with a better showing at home. Alaves have one win and five losses in their last eight home matches. One of those defeats came at the hands of Barcelona, and they have failed to score in seven of the eight.
Barcelona, on the other hand, recovered from their El Clasico loss with a 2-0 away win in Italy, beating Juventus in the Champions League. While they have had no problem at all handling their European peers, Barca have struggled at home, and go to this game winless in three straight league matches. They have lost their last two in the league and the win over Juventus marked their first clean sheet in five matches though it was not entirely comfortable. Somehow, they seem to find it better playing away from home, looking at their recent results. They have two wins in their three away games this season and in La Liga they have five wins and one loss in their last eight away matches. Going to this game, Barca have three clean sheets in the last four away league games and they have scored three or more in three of the last five away league matches.
