Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last season but could be knocked out in the group stages this time around. They top the group with one game to go and host second placed Valencia who trail them by two points. Defeat in this game and Chelsea beating Lille at home will see the Dutch side in the Europa League after Christmas. A draw will be enough to take them through though but they will want a win to finish top. Ajax have only lost one of their group matches, a home loss to Chelsea. They had been unbeaten in their last seven games before losing to Willem II in their most recent match. At the time of writing this preview, they are still six points clear at the top of the Dutch Eredvisie.

Valencia will qualify for the last sixteen with a win in this game but a draw might be enough. That would depend on Chelsea not beating Lille and the Londoners aren't in the best of form. Even losing would get them through if Lille were to win at Chelsea. Valencia have four points from their two away games in this group, winning at Chelsea and drawing in Lille. Recent form isn't good on the road with only one win in the last five. A bet on a home win is the suggested wager in what could develop into an open game, especially if Chelsea are winning.
