The Eredivisie title will be decided on the final day when second-place Ajax hosts fifth-placed Twente at the Johan Cruyff Arena. De Godenzonen will have to beat the Tukkers and have Sparta do them a huge favor by taking points off of PSV if they are to reclaim the league title. A late-season collapse by Ajax has allowed their bitter rivals PSV a chance to steal the league title right from under their noses on the final day of the season. The hosts have failed to win in their last four Eredivisie matches and managed just two points from the last 12 available.
Ajax conceded a dramatic late equalizer in their 2-2 away draw with Groningen on Wednesday. The goal by Thijmen Blokzijl was scored in the ninth minute of stoppage time and very well could have cost Ajax the championship.
The result has seen PSV erase what was a nine-point deficit in April and they now lead the standings by one point.
As for Twente, a 3-2 home loss to AZ has bumped them down to sixth place in the standings. They’ll have to make it through the European qualification play-off to claim a spot in the Conference League.
The defeat snapped a two-game winning streak and marked their fourth defeat in their last eight outings.
