The clock is ticking to the start of the January transfer window. It's not likely to be as busy as in the summer but some key signings may well be made. Saudi Arabian clubs will be looking to sign more players and so will top clubs around Europe. Just who might just be starting 2024 with new signings being made?

January sees the transfer window open and clubs will be attempting to strengthen their squads. Others will be aiming to offload some players and cut their wage bills. It's not usually a month when too many top players leave for pastures anew but 2024 might just be different. With it being tight at the top of several of the main leagues around Europe, signings made in January might just make the difference between going on to win a title or being an also-ran. Let's take a look at some of the top players who might just be changing clubs in January.

Transfer Time for Toney?

Brentford's Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney is free to play again next month after serving an eight month suspension. The Brentford striker is attracting plenty of attention and could well be on his way in January.

Arsenal may have been top of the Premier League on Christmas Day but a new striker would be handy. Saka and Nketiah are their joint top league goal scorers but only scored five apiece. Gabriel Jesus has only scored three Premier League goals this season but continues to be injury prone.

To win the Premier League title, Arsenal need a top striker and Ivan Toney fits that bill. It's a bit of a gamble as the England striker hasn't played all season due to his ban. Even so, signing Toney would give them a big boost up front.

The Gunners aren’t the only side interested in acquiring Toney in January. Chelsea have spent hundreds of millions of pounds but are still an inconsistent team. Signing Toney might just be a vital piece of the jigsaw they are continually trying to complete. Don't forget to access our football livescore for the latest scores and updated statistics.

Nketiah On His Way?

Nketiah of Arsenal

One player who could possibly be transferred in January is Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah. He’s scored five league goals for Arsenal this season. However, three of those came in their home win over Sheffield United.

Mikel Arteta is talking about signing four new players in the January transfer window. He might just need to sell someone to get the funds for those new signings. That will particularly be the case if Ivan Toney is one of their new signings.

Nketiah has struggled to get a regular place in the Arsenal first team, often having to rely on Gabriel Jesus getting injured. If he is made available for transfer, there will be several clubs keen on signing him. West Ham United are believed to want him and it may cost the Hammers £40 million to acquire him. Again, the big question is whether a club will let a player leave in January?

Nketiah is struggling to get regular first team football and if Toney were to arrive then he'd slip further down the pecking order so a move in January might be a good option. Remember to check out all the betting odds for football games.

Will Mbappe Leave PSG in January?

PSG forward Kylian MbappeKylian Mbappe is likely to be playing his last season at PSG. It did look as if he’d be leaving last summer but no transfer deal could be arranged. Will he leave PSG in January?

Saudi Arabian clubs are likely to come calling with massive financial offers. However, the French international seems set on seeing out the season with PSG and then possibly signing for Real Madrid in the summer. He may well stay at PSG in January but behind the scenes, Real may well be working out a deal that will see him head to Spain in the summer. Salah Is A Wanted Man

Liverpool striker

January is bound to see Saudi Arabia’s top clubs trying to sign more top players. Mo Salah was a target during the summer and that’s likely to be repeated next month. Will he be tempted away from Anfield though?

More importantly, with Liverpool challenging for the Premier League title, will they be interested in letting their star striker leave the club? Salah has 12 league goals this season and no other Liverpool player has scored more than four. Darwin Nunez hasn’t scored a league goal since the end of October so that’s not promising. Perhaps the only option for Liverpool would be to try and sign either Nketiah or Toney if they do decide to accept a Saudi offer.

Phillips Looking For Regular First Team Action

Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips has had an unsettled time at Manchester City and is keen to move on in January. Gareth Southgate seems to have more faith in him than Pep Guardiola. 2024 will see the European Championships take place and Phillips will want to be in the England squad. Southgate is likely to pick him but if he was playing regularly in the Premier League, Phillips might even force his way into the starting line-up.

Newcastle United are known to be big admirers of the England midfielder and could well make a bid for him in January. There's overseas interest too and Serie A title contenders Juventus could well come in with a big offer for him.

It’s going to be a fascinating month as sides attempt to sign players that might just turn their season around. Often it’s a case that big deals tend not to happen in January, will that be what we see next month or will some major transfers take place? Only time will tell
