The money fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is nearly upon us in what will be the highest grossing event in the history of boxing and MMA. The five-division professional boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face the current UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

Mc Gregor vs Mayweather

Mayweather stated that only a fight with McGregor would make him come out of retirement. It was Conor’s idea in the first place and they both agreed on the fight, with no MMA rules, purely a boxing match in a boxing ring. So, this means Conor will be at a disadvantage having never boxed a professional fight in his life. In March 2017 Mayweather told Conor to “sign the paper” and “make it happen” and in May McGregor agreed to all of Mayweather’s terms and conditions, signing the contract. The fight will happen on the 26th of August in Nevada, this weekend.

Does Conor have a chance?

Conor Mc Gregor

According to the boxing experts, no. For them they feel that the result is already decided, it’s just a matter of how many rounds Conor can last. But of course, anything is possible in boxing and Conor has been working very hard for this moment. The MMA people are certainly not writing Conor’s chances off, has he been the only man to hold two titles in two weight divisions simultaneously.

Why is Floyd Mayweather such a big favourite

Floyd Mayweather

The obvious reason is that Mayweather is undefeated in his professional boxing career. He is also a five-division world champion. He is regarded as the best defensive boxer in history, and the most accurate puncher. Now he is going up against a UFC fighter who has never fought in a professional boxing match in his life. Mayweather has only been knocked to the ground once, and managed to come back and win the fight. He has won all his 49 professional fights, and he wins his 50th against Conor he will be the most successful boxer in history. Pretty impressive.

The odds for Mayweather are at 1.30 with Bet365, this will be the safe bet.

Key facts about the fight

Mayweather has not fought a professional match in 2 years, back in 2015 he retired after achieving his 49-0-win streak. The fight will take place at 154 pounds, which will benefit Conor as he doesn’t have to cut as much weight. As both fighters will be weighing the same McGregor has a significant height advantage that he can use for good use. Conor is also a natural left-handler. This has been a slight problem to Mayweather in the past, when fighting Zab Judah and Pacquiao. Conor will need to use this to his advantage as he has very little boxing experience.

While McGregor is an offensive fighter, he is going up against the best defensive boxer of all time, and it’s what makes Mayweather so great and undefeatable. Mayweather is not a knockout puncher usually, so it is likely to see the fight go till the end. We hope! Or another likely option is that Conor will get disqualified for fighting dirty or not obeying the boxing rules, which could happen if it is not going well for him. Whatever the outcome, Conor has nothing to lose. If he survives 12 rounds that’s an achievement in its self, surviving against one of the greatest boxers in history.
