Community Shield
The Community Shield is held in London’s Wembley Stadium annually and will take place this year on the 6th August in what will be a repeat of the FA Cup final where Arsenal came out on top with a 2-1 over the Blues, Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa scoring for both sides before Aaron Ramsey netted the winner. The community shield has been running for 109 years, Manchester have won the most, 21 in total. Arsenal are the third most successful club with 14 titles, Chelsea only with 4. This year should be the most exciting yet with the clubs exciting new arrivals.
Can Alexandre Lacazette lead the Gunners to victory?
Arsenal have been having a good pre-season so far with Lacazette impressing. They easily beat Sydney and Western Sydney and beating Bayern Munich on penalties. However after that they were trashed 3-0 by Chelsea. This will boost Chelsea’s performance drastically before heading to Wembley. Arsene Wenger will remind the fans that he put out a weaker side than usual, with different formations. The Gunners also have to face Benfica and Sevilla before the big match so they have plenty of time to make up for that awful loss.

Chelsea have been busy in the transfer window, the biggest being Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. He was brought in to replace Diega Costa. Real Madrid, who were champions over Sevilla last year now face Manchester United. Replacing Ibrahimovic United will now have Lukaku to cause a threat up front. Manchester United have a big chance in beating Real Madrid. However players will need to rise to the occasion. Antony Martial had a stunning assist against Real Madrid recently and if he has the confidence to do that again Real Madrid could be in trouble. Carrick will need to show that he is the leader. He is the player with experienced. This could be a very young United side if Rashford and Lingard is on the field. So Carrick will need to show leadership and give confidence to his players. This is the European Champions they are facing. With David De Gea in goals that will provide structure and confidence for the defenders in the back. Eric Baily will be suspended for this game so Smalling or Jones could be the replacements.

Real Madrid are now without James Rodriguez and James Morata up front but still have the big guns like Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo. Pepe will be gone from the back as well as Danilo who have both been sold on. Real Madrid were recently trashed by Manchester city 4-1. Maybe this can be a wakeup call before the important matches begin, the first one being the Super Cup. It will be interesting to see if Cristiano Ronaldo will step up and score against his old club. They had a sluggish start to their pre-season tour, drawing and losing to Manchester United on the worst penalty shootout, Madrid only scoring one. Next they were trashed by Manchester City. Next they face Barcelona before they travel to play in the Super Cup. This is where they need to prove that they are still the European Champions over their neighbours Barcelona.
