Man City hosted Chelsea in the Etihad on that cold Winter Saturday and despite the preconceived notions of the Etihad, Chelsea managed to get a result there. They beat City 3-1. The home side took the lead through an own-goal just on the brink of half time. But when Chelsea came out after the break, they were firing on all cylinders.
Costa got their first on the hour mark. 20 minutes later, Willian gave Chelsea the lead and then in the 90th minute, Hazard put the final nail in the coffin and made it 3-1. A 3-1 victory against a side like Manchester City isn’t easy, and it’s certainly not easy going into their back yard and doing it. This time around, the leaders will play City in the comfort of Stamford Bridge, which has been home to Chelsea for over 110 years. These two clubs have a rich history between them and when they meet, it is always a spectacle. In the last 10 or so meetings of these teams, the results have an almost even split, City winning roughly a third of games, Chelsea winning roughly a third and the game ending a draw roughly a third of the time too. There is also a correlation between home sides and victories, if you look past the infrequent outlier results. Given this information we think it’s pretty safe to bank on Chelsea to win!
