Relegation-threatened West Ham face an uphill battle to keep the red-hot third placed Newcastle United at bay when the teams play at the London Stadium on Wednesday. Ahead of this Premier League match  the hosts are 14th in the table but still in deep relegation trouble. with 27 points from 27 matches while the visitors are third with 50 points. West Ham are coming off a massive 1-0 win over Southampton with a Nayer Aguerd strike deciding the game. This has helped the Hammers move to 14th spot but with only one point separating them from the relegation zone, there’s not too many reasons to cheer. David Moyes men have struggled for goals all through the season and with only 25 from 27 games, they look vulnerable. That’s the main reason why West Ham are being found out against top teams this season at home.

Newcastle moved above Manchester United into third spot with a commanding 2-0 win over the Red Devils at the weekend. With Tottenham only drawing on Monday all three teams from third to fifth have the same number of points but the London side has played two more games. The Magpies are on a three-match winning run in the league which has lifted the gloom after successive losses to Liverpool and Manchester City. Eddie Howe’s men remain the best defensive unit of the league with only 19 goals conceded so far. Interestingly, they have struggled to close out matches away from home with only one win and three draws from their last five Premier League away matches. Yet, with a struggling West Ham in sights, they should overturn that scratchy form.
