Matchday 32 action in La Liga has an interesting match lined up on Sunday with Villarreal and Real Sociedad battling it out in a fight to further their European ambitions. This match at the El Madrigal between the fifth-placed Yellow Submarine and the ninth-placed La Real comes with our prediction of over 2.5 goals.

Ahead of this round, Villarreal’s 51 points put them three points ahead of Real Betis with a game in hand. Sociedad are lurking two points behind Mallorca, who currently occupy the last spot for European qualification.

Villarreal’s ambitions to qualify for next season’s Champions League received a boost last weekend with a 2-1 away win at Real Betis. That extended their mini-unbeaten run to three (W2, D1) and keeps them in charge of their own destiny.

That said, their home form leaves a lot to be desired, as Villarreal could win only two of their recent eight La Liga matches at this venue (W2, D4, L2).

Sociedad were beaten 2-0 at home by Mallorca last week to end their four-game unbeaten run (W2, D2). They now remain outside the European qualification spots, although still in a position to move up.

That would need some improvements on their recent away form, as La Real lost six of their last ten away matches in all competitions.
