Athletic Bilbao returned from their Europa League elimination determined to secure a Champions League place, and they’ve done it. Sitting fourth, they will be seeking additional points when traveling to 11th-placed Valencia. Read on for our prediction of the Sunday match.
Hosts Valencia have had a late rise and will put their faint hopes for Europe to the test again here. They return home having suffered a shock 1-0 defeat away to Alaves.
That was a first loss in 11 matches, leaving a dent in Valencia’s rise. Thus far, Valencia should still be okay with their placing, having won just two of their opening 22 games.
In their last 10 matches, Valencia have six wins, and Athletic Bilbao will be wary of their hosts' recent improvement. The visitors have claimed consecutive wins in La Liga after their semi-final defeat in the Europa League.
Back-to-back defeats to Manchester United spoiled a good Athletic Bilbao run. In La Liga they are one of the form teams, having only lost twice in their last 27 outings.
Their most recent 2-0 win over Getafe was the fourth straight league game they kept a clean sheet, and they won three of them. In the reverse fixture they beat Valencia 1-0 and will be targeting a double, having lost to them just once in seven.

Our Valencia vs Athletic Bilbao Prediction
These two sides have lately had some consistency in La Liga, and a big part of this has been because of their defending. The ability to squeeze through tight wins has also lifted both sides. Athletic Bilbao, for example, have kept clean sheets in their last four league matches but failed to score in two of the last five.
Away from home, they failed to score in three of five league games but have four clean sheets. Valencia, on their part, have conceded just once in four home league games. Our prediction for Valencia v Athletic Bilbao is: Both teams to score – NO.
