Ukraine will face off against Romania in the Round of 16 at the 2026 European Championship in Sofia on Sunday. Ukraine have dominated this matchup in previous years, and our prediction is that they will add another victory to their tally here. 

Ukraine enjoyed an impressive group-stage campaign, racking up four consecutive victories in their first four games before suffering a 3-0 defeat to reigning champions Poland on Tuesday. 

Oleh Plotnytskyi has been the standout performer for the team in this competition, averaging 4.65 points per set, followed by Dmytro Yanchuk, who is averaging 3.57 points per set. 

Ukraine have now won seven of their last 10 matches across all competitions. Their most recent victory over this opponent came at the Golden European League in May 2024 (3-1). 

Meanwhile, Romania finished third in Pool D with nine points, beating Switzerland (3-1), Turkiye (3-1), and France (3-2), while losing to Latvia (1-3) and Germany (2-3).
