Switzerland and Australia will wrap up their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with this international friendly at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on Saturday. This match will give an ideal chance for the 19th-ranked ‘National Team’ and the 27th-ranked ‘Socceroos’ to fine-tune their attacking options. Going by the pattern in their respective recent games, this match comes with our prediction of less than 2.5 goals.
The Swiss are paired with co-hosts Canada, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Qatar in Group B of the World Cup. Switzerland have reached the round of 16 in the last three World Cup editions and will hope to have another impactful tournament. Success here will add to their confidence, although they will have to do so without star striker Breel Embolo.
Australia will be in Group D in the summer tournament, alongside co-hosts the United States, Paraguay, and Turkey. The Socceroos have also reached the round of 16 in the 2022 World Cup but have had a troubling buildup to this edition. Will these two teams rise above their problems and provide entertainment? Switzerland - Australia: Form Analysis
Switzerland defeated Jordan 4-1 last weekend to record their first win in four matches (D2, L1). Three first-half goals, led by Embolo’s opener, eased them to a win. The Swiss will be without Embolo, though, with the striker yet to get a visa to the United States.
The ‘National Team’ could be challenged on the scoring front as a result, although they look settled on the defensive front. With six clean sheets in their last ten matches, the Swiss are proving to be a tough nut to crack.
Each of Switzerland’s last 11 wins have come by a 2+ goal margin.
Australia were edged 1-0 by Mexico in their latest friendly last weekend. That came after two consecutive wins in the FIFA Series against Cameroon and Curacao, but three defeats in a row prior to that tournament underline their struggles in being consistent.
Being on the road brings another challenge for the Socceroos, who have lost each of their last four away from home. The last three of those defeats have seen them fail to score, so Australia will look to get their offensive house in order.

Switzerland & Australia Squad Analysis
Embolo scored his 24th international goal against Jordan but will now miss this match. He could be replaced by Zeki Amdouni on Saturday, while Fabian Rieder and Noah Okafor could also get a look in.
That could see Amdouni feature as a central striker in their 3-4-3 formation with Okafor and Dan Ndoye shaping up as the wingers. Granit Xhaka is set to continue as their midfield lynchpin.
Ndoye has six goals from his last ten international appearances.
Australia have no injuries reported after the last match, but there could be some changes up front. Cristian Volpato switched his allegiance from Italy to Australia but missed their last game. Tete Yengi also was missing from the playing XI against Mexico.
The Socceroos have usually lined up conservatively in a 5-4-1 system, but a few games in recent times saw them line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Either way, that could be a chance for Volpato to start up front and show that the hype around him is real.

Our Switzerland vs Australia Prediction
Switzerland will be without their star striker Embolo, as they still look to settle his visa issues. Will that impact their scoring patterns? The Swiss did score at least three goals in three of their last five matches, so they will have to find some scoring avenues. Australia will hope they can find some scoring boots themselves, as they have been struggling for goals in their recent games.
Looking at the scoring pattern in recent Australian games, our Switzerland vs Australia prediction is less than 2.5 goals.
Switzerland vs Australia Alternative Predictions
Switzerland wins
Switzerland have eight wins from their last 12 matches, losing just once in that sequence, against Germany in a friendly in March. Australia, on the other hand, have lost their last four away matches, even failing to score in the last three in that sequence. It could be Switzerland’s chance to pack a win in their bags before the World Cup begins.
