There were two close matches on Tuesday and we could see another one here. Fourth seed Stephen Bunting takes on Jonny Clayton in this World Matchplay quarter-final. Here’s our match prediction.
This quarter-final is the best of 31 legs with the winner up against either ninth seed James Wade or unseeded Gian van Veen in the last four.
So far in this tournament, Clayton has beaten Martin Schindler 10-7 and then Mike de Decker 11-8. His best average was in round one with 99.6 recorded against Schindler. Round two saw that average drop to 93.41.
Highlights of 2025 for Clayton have been getting to the World Masters final and the UK Open semi-final. He has won four of his last five matches.
Stephen Bunting had a tough match in round two. He narrowly beat Gary Anderson 12-10 but his average was only 92.71. That was down from the 98 recorded in his first round 10-8 victory over Ryan Royce.
This is his second World Matchplay quarter-final, the other being six years ago. He reached the last four in this year’s World Championship. Two of his last three matches against Clayton have ended in defeat.
