Second seed Casper Ruud takes on fifth seeded Sebastian Baez for a place in the Geneva Open semi-finals. Whoever wins this clay court match will face unseeded opposition for a place in the final. That's because the other quarter-final in the bottom half of the draw sees Alexander Shevchenko or Flavio Cobolli. Ruud has won this tournament on two previous occasions in 2021 and 2022. The world number seven has had a good 2024 and is fourth in the Live ATP Race. One clay court tournament has already been won by Ruud this year. That was the Barcelona clay court tournament and he'll hope for another before Rolanf Garros begins next week. He's had one match so far and had to go to three sets to beat Sebastian Ofner. He lost the first set but won the next two for the loss of four games. He leads Baez 2-0 in previous meetings. Both were in clay court tournaments played last year, though one did go to a final set.

Sebastian Baez is bidding to win his third clay court tournament of the year. He had back-to-back wins in Rio and Santiago but he made a poor start to the European clay court swing. His first two tournaments failed to produce a win. The last 32 was reached in Madrid and he went a round further in Rome. He was ranked 20th in Monday's latest ranking list and is 16th in the ATP Race. A win over Ruud will take him above Ugo Humbert into 15th place. His Geneva campaign has begun with two straight sets wins over unseeded players. After beating Sumit Nagal, he lost only three games to Roberto Carballes Baena, all in the first set.
