Napoli will be looking to extend their leadership of the Italian Serie A when they travel to Salerno to take on Salernitana at the Stadio Arechi. Hosts Salernitana go into this game having banked 18 points from as many games and they are 16th in the standings. There isn’t the immediate threat of dropping into the relegation zone for Salernitana but they need to improve on their recent run. They come into this game winless in 2023, with their last win having come in October 2022, when they shocked Lazio 3-1 in Rome. Salernitana have failed to win in their last six league matches, losing four, and they had a serious beating ahead of this game, falling 8-2 to a rampant Atalanta. They’ve however failed to score in just two of their last 10 league matches. They have suffered four straight defeats in their last four meetings with Napoli, and this includes a Serie A double when promoted to the top flight last season.

Napoli have shown some jitters in their recent matches though they remain firmly in the lead of Serie A, with a nine-point gap. They have one team less to worry about in their title race, after Juventus was docked 15 points and dropped from third to 11th. Napoli will however hope to do better than they did against Cremonese in the Coppa Italia in their last game. Napoli were forced to extra time after a 2-2 draw and the game went all the way to the penalties before Cremonese won despite playing the final 10 minutes of extra time with 10 men. A number of Napoli starters were rested for that game though, and we expect them back here, which guarantees a very strong opposition for Salernitana. Napoli have lost just once in the league this season – against Inter Milan but have since recovered from that with two straight wins in the league. They have won 13 of their last 14 matches but they have just four clean sheets in the last 10 Serie A games.
