Real Madrid vs Liverpool Prediction & Betting Tips - Champions League
by Sridhar | in Champions League Prediction
Liverpool run the risk of ending their Champions League stay at the hands of Real Madrid for the third year running as they carry a heavy deficit to the second leg at Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday in what will be a 300th game in this competition for the Spanish giants. Madrid came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 5-2 at Anfield in the last week of February to give them a big chance of winning this tie and making it to the quarter-final. They seem to have found a key to answering Liverpool’s challenges having won six of the last seven matches between the two sides. Surprisingly though, Carlo Ancelotti’s side has struggled to replicate the first leg form in the matches played thereafter. They have won one, drawn two and lost one of their last four matches in all competitions raising questions if the momentum of that Anfield win has been evaporated. Both the draws are in La Liga which means despite the win at weekend they are nine points behind leaders Barcelona. The defending Champions League champions though seem to enjoy the continental stage, winning five of their seven matches this season. That includes a perfect three wins in three at Santiago Bernabéu which further amplifies Liverpool’s difficulties.
The Reds have comeback from a first-leg deficit of three or more goals in the past, doing so against Barcelona in 2018-19 but that came at home. Furthermore, their recent form has been patchy and symbolised one step forward and one step backward. A momentous 7-0 thumping against arch rivals Manchester United was followed by a dire 1-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend leaving them 6th in the English Premier League and struggling to make a top-four charge. That would mean all-or-nothing here for Jurgen Klopp’s men as winning the Champions League could be their only ticket to next season’s action in this tournament! That’s enough pressure on the visitors who have won only three of their ten matches against Madrid, with all wins coming in the European Cup.
