Oman will hope to bounce back and keep their AFC Asian Cup knockout chances alive when they face Thailand. This matchday two of Group F will be played at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha on Sunday. Ahead of this round, Thailand are top of the group with three points while Oman are third with zero. Oman started with a 2-1 defeat to group favourites Saudi Arabia earlier in the week. They led 1-0 for more than 75 minutes but two late goals saw them condemned to a defeat. It was their third defeat across five matches, but with four places up for grabs for third-placed teams in the groups, all’s not lost. They need to up their for the continental opposition though, as Oman have now lost four of their last five Asian Cup matches.

Thailand won 2-0 against Kyrgyz Republic in their group opener to take a surprise lead in the group standings. A brace from Supachai Chaided with a goal each in either half helped them get two points. It was a pleasant surprise for coach Masatada Ishii, whose only game with the side was a 5-0 defeat to Japan in a friendly. The Thais did reach the round of 16 in the last edition in 2019 and could book that spot with a win here. That said, even a defeat won’t rule them out of contention, although they would be looking to get something out of this fixture.
