Nigeria U20 are among the best ranked third-placed teams at the FIFA U20 World Cup. They will, however, look to rise to second place in Group F with a win against Colombia on matchday three. Read on for our prediction of the match.
Nigeria didn’t have the best of starts at the competition, falling narrowly to Norway. They recovered in the second round with an equally slim but crucial 3-2 win over Saudi Arabia.
That win lifted them to third place in the group but second in the list of best-positioned third-place teams. Avoiding defeat is thus key to Nigeria progressing as they attempt to better their runners-up finishes in 1989 and 2005.
Colombia sits atop the group standings on four points as a result of their 1-0 win against Saudi Arabia and a 0-0 draw with Norway. It is a tight group with few goals defining the team positions.
As things stand, only Saudi Arabia are eliminated after two defeats in as many matches. At the summit, Colombia might still miss out on automatic passage to the knockouts if they lose here.
These two nations faced off in a 2023 friendly match, which ended 3-3, and we expect another tight game going by the previous results in this pool. Colombia are looking to better their third-place finish in 2003.
