Newcastle vs Leicester Prediction & Betting Tips - Carabao Cup
by Steve Ashfield | in Carabao Cup Prediction
Newcastle United host Leicester City in this Carabao Cup quarter final. United are third in the Premier League but have to bounce back from their FA Cup third round loss at League One Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. The Magpies fielded a much weakened line-up for that game and are likely to give plenty of recalls for this quarter final. With the semi-finals being played over two legs, Newcastle are in the position where they are three games away from the cup final and two of those will be played on home soil. United are in their first League Cup semi-final since 1976 and have never reached the final of this competiton in its 63 year history. They have gone three games without a win with two of those being goalless draws, including the impressive result at league leaders Arsenal last week. When the Premier League season resumed after the World Cup break, Newcastle went to Leicester and came home with a 3-0 win. They are unbeaten in their last 12 home league and cup games and will want to keep that good run intact. So far in this season's Carabao Cup they have had wins at Tranmere Rovers (after going a goal down) and home wins over fellow Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. They've kept four consecutive home clean sheets in this competition. The last team to score against them on home soil were Leicester in the 2018/19 season when drawing 1-1 and losing on penalties.
Leicester City are in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup for the fifth time in six seasons. Only in the 2019/20 season have they managed to make it into the last four. City are currently 13th in the Premier League and have had an inconsistent season. They were in the relegation zone after a poor start to the new season but finally found some form and began moving up the table. It hasn't gone so well for them since the season resumed with three consecutive losses. They have done much better in cup competitions though. Saturday saw them win at Gillingham in the FA Cup and before that they'd beaten MK Dons in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup. Now they face Premier League opposition after also beating Stockport County (needing a penalty shootout) and Newport County. Away form is inconsistent and the tip here is for a home victory.
