Decision Day in the MLS regular season has arrived with teams playing their final regular season fixture of the year. Fifth-place New England Revolution host the third-place Philadelphia Union with plenty still on the line for both clubs. While both teams are assured of a spot in the playoffs, higher seeding and home field advantage is still up for grabs. The Revs can still finish anywhere from third to seventh-place on the final day’s fixture. They would need a top-four finish to ensure that they have home field advantage over their first round opponent. A win for New England combined with a Columbus loss would see them steal fourth-place from the Crew. They can also finish third should they win by at least three goals vs Philly and have Columbus lose.

New England will also want to ensure that they enter the playoffs on a positive note after a difficult end to the regular season. The Revs come into this fixture on a three-game losing streak following their most recent 3-2 defeat to Nashville last weekend. It was yet another poor performance from Clint Peay’s side who have now conceded eight goals in their last three matches alone. The saving grace for New England is their home record this season which is an excellent 11-4-1.

The Union cannot catch second-place Orlando as they trail them by five points in the standings. That means that Philadelphia will be playing to hold on to their third seed, which would see them matched up with Atlanta United in the first round with the way things currently stand. Philly lead fourth-place Columbus by just a single point although hold the head-to-head advantage. The visitors come into this fixture off the back of a 0-0 home draw with Nashville. It was the latest in a string of draws for Philly as they have now seen six of their last seven matches end in a stalemate.
