It's seven years since unseeded Matteo Berrettini made it past round two in Shanghai. He takes on the 16th seed Brandon Nakashima in round two of this outdoor hard court Masters tournament. Berrettini hasn't made it to round three of a tournament since July and our prediction is Nakashima wins.

Whoever wins will take on either 19th seed Alexander Bublik or unseeded Tomas Machac in the third round.

The American has reached two finals on this surface in 2026 with three other semi-finals.

He has lost two of his last three matches, but did make it to the Cincinnati semi-finals in August.

There's been one previous meeting between these two players. Berrettini won that in four sets in the Australian Open.

In 2016, Matteo Berrettini was a semi-finalist in this tournament, but that's the last time he made it past this stage.
