Sonmez is at 93rd in the live rankings, just below her career-high of 88th. The 22-year-old Turk has lost five of her nine matches this year. All of her wins in 2025 have come in qualifying rounds and this is only the second time she’s played in a main draw this year. The other was in the Australian Open where Somnez lost to Talia Gibson in three sets.
Last October saw her win the Merida Open, which was played on this surface. In the 2024 edition of this tournament, Somnez lost in round one to Lesya Tsurenko.
Marta Kostyuk is 21st in the live list and that’s a new career high. Only two of her five matches played this year have been won. They were both in the Australian Open when reaching round three and being beaten by Paula Badosa,
