Manchester United will hop into the League Cup, hosting League One side Charlton Athletic after their convincing win over Everton in the FA Cup. Heading into this game, United have seven straight wins and they will be outright favorites to progress to the semi-finals. A 3-1 win over Everton in the FA Cup third round affirmed United’s rise in form since their 3-1 loss to Aston Villa in November and they will hope to extend the same here. They have scored two or more goals in six of their last seven matches and they come into this game with a good defensive run too, having kept four clean sheets in five matches. They are unbeaten in the last 10 home matches, keeping eight clean sheets in that run and winning eight of them. Marcus Rashford has been their top performer in recent matches and he comes into this game having scored in each of their last five matches.

Charlton Athletic are coming into this game with two straight wins and will be confident, having recently eliminated Premier League side Brighton from the League Cup. A 0-0 draw at home to Brighton and a win on post match penalties is all they needed to get to this stage. Charlton will be hoping for another major upset. Facing a free scoring side, Charlton will have to employ a defensive strategy, one that has failed to produce a clean sheet for them in the four matches coming after the 0-0 draw with Brighton. Their last three matches have all produced over 2.5 goals, including their latest outing, a 2-1 win over Lincoln City. They’ve however failed to score in just one of the last five matches. It hasn’t been rosy away from home though, the team losing four of their last five matches on the road.
