by Steve Ashfield in Premier League Predictions
Life doesn't get any easier for Manchester City. After their Champions League exit, City welcomes Liverpool to the Etihad on Sunday. City are fifth in the Premier League, can they boost their Champions League qualification hopes with a win this weekend? Here's our match prediction.
City are 17 points behind their opponents and need to rescue a disappointing season. Making it into the Champions League is a top priority and the FA Cup is their only chance of silverware in the coming months. Last weekend saw them crush Newcastle with Marmoush scoring a hat-trick. Then came the loss to Real Madrid, can they now avoid another Premier League loss to Liverpool.
If Arsenal win on Saturday, Liverpool's lead at the top of the Premier League will be reduced to five points. They remain the only side in the league not to have lost an away fixture this season. Salah and company may be relishing playing against City's sometimes fragile defence.

Manchester City - Liverpool: Form Analysis
Manchester City have won eight home league games this season and beat Newcastle United 4-0 at home last weekend. United weren't at the races for some reason and Liverpool will be much tougher opponents this weekend.
The Citizens lost the reverse fixture to Liverpool 2-0 two months ago. Their defending remains a big problem for Pep Guardiola. At least three goals have been conceded in all but two of their last five fixtures in all competitions.
Liverpool are still unbeaten on their Premier League travels.
Liverpool are yet to lose an away league game this season. Midweek saw them have to come from behind to salvage that record with a 2-2 draw at Aston Viila. That was their second successive away league draw.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last 22 Premier league matches. Only two of their last ten matches against Manchester City have ended in defeat.

Manchester City & Liverpool Squad Analysis
Manchester City have conceded 35 league goals this season. That's already one more than the number they had scored against them in all of last season's Premier League. Ederson has had his problems this season but he will be in goal for City this weekend.
He'll look to try and keep Liverpool out and perhaps even make another assist. It perhaps shows City's problems this season that he's had more assists than Phil Foden has achieved. Rico Lewis is likely to be in the starting line-up but John Stones is unlikely to play and will be replaced by Abdukodir Khusanov.
Erling Haaland started the game against Real Madrid on the subs bench and didn't make it onto the pitch. He's a doubt for this match and City may have to rely on last week's hat-trick hero Omar Mamoush.
Liverpool can't stop scoring goals.
Liverpool have scored at least twice in all but one of their last 20 league fixtures. Mo Salah is set to take the Golden Boot away from Haaland this season and is in top form at present. Can City stop him scoring?
Cody Gakpo is doubtful for this match and that could see Luis Diaz in the starting line-up. Diogo Jota could also be playing up front. He seems to be in better form than Darwin Nunez who missed a sitter at Villa Park in midweek.

Our Manchester City vs Liverpool Prediction
Liverpool will aim this weekend to become the latest side to exploit Manchester City's struggling defence. The league leaders have drawn their last two away league games and can't afford to be dropping more points. They continually score at least two goals in a game and it's hard to see City preventing them doing so again.
City were knocked out of the Champions League in midweek and another loss looks on the way here against the league leaders. Our main Manchester City v Liverpool prediction is Liverpool to win.
