Manchester City beat Wolves 2-0 on Saturday to return to winning ways. They will hope for more of that in midweek to qualify for the next round directly. City know how tricky the UCL playoffs are after they were eliminated from the competition two seasons ago as title holders in the round.
Pep Guardiola’s men suffered a shock 3-1 loss last week away to Bodo Glimt. Also, having lost to Bayer Leverkusen in their last home game in Europe, the Blues find themselves right in the middle of a congested top eight race. They are tied with seven other teams on 13 points and must produce a hammering if they are to avoid the playoff route.
Galatasaray have lost eight of their last 12 away matches in Europe.
For Galatasaray, it is not as simple as just winning this round to qualify. The Turkish giants will have to hope that other results elsewhere favor them. A win, however, will see them make the playoffs and possibly as a seeded team.
Cimbom have won three and lost three of their seven games. With 10 points, they aren’t certain of staying in the competition. Okan Buruk’s men defeated Karagumruk 3-1 this weekend to remain in pole position in the domestic league. They drew 1-1 at home against Atletico Madrid last time out.
