Manchester City's chances of qualifying for next season's Champions League have been boosted this week. They are sixth in the Premier League and on Saturday are home to 11th-placed Crystal Palace. Can the Citizens get an important home win? Here's our match prediction.

It was confirmed this week that the top five in the Premier League will all go into next season's Champions League. City are still outside even the extra place but only by a point. A win in this early kick-off will take them into fourth position in the table. City are on an unbeaten run at present and in the FA Cup semi-finals. They still lack the consistency that has won them so many titles in recent years.

Crystal Palace are 11th but could still be playing European football next season. They are also in the last four of the FA Cup and only five points behind the eighth place in the Premier League that could earn European qualification. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last eight league and cup games.

Manchester City - Crystal Palace: Form Analysis

Manchester City have only lost one of their last five Premier League games. That was an away loss at Nottingham Forest but five points have been earned from their three league games since then.

Three of their last five league fixtures have seen them keep a clean sheet. That's a big improvement on their defending earlier in the season. Home form has seen the Blues win nine of their 15 fixtures at the Etihad. Only Liverpool have beaten them in their last seven home league matches.

Palace are on an unbeaten away run.

Crystal Palace have gone eight league and cup games without defeat. Last weekend saw them beat Brighton 2-1 at home but the Eagles are flying high on the road too. They are unbeaten in their last ten away league matches but were held to a 1-1 draw at Southampton last time out.

Manchester City & Crystal Palace Squad Analysis

Manchester City need to use their home advantage and secure three vital points. They will have to hopefully qualify for next season's Champions League without the services of top scorer Erling Haaland. That isn't quite the crisis it sounds with Omar Marmoush in good scoring form for City since he joined them. Of the last eight goals City have scored, five of them have been scored by the Egyptian.

City will also be without Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and John Stones. Their defensive record has been poor this season but they have gone two league games without conceding and will want to keep that run going.

Crystal Palace will be missing Eddie Nketiah for this game. He came on as a sub against Brighton and ended up being sent off. Palace also had Marc Guehi sent off in that heated Premier League game and he also misses the visit to the Etihad.

City need to keep close tabs on Mateta.

Palace have scored in 15 of their last 17 away league games. They needed a 92nd minute goal to earn a 1-1 draw at Southampton in their most recent away league fixture. City will need to keep a close eye on Jean Philippe Mateta who has scored twice for Palace in two of their last four away league games.

Our Manchester City vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Manchester City didn't expect to be at the stage where they'd be delighted finishing fifth can take them into the Champions League. They will not find it easy getting three points against Palace but at least the loss of Haaland is tempered by the form of Marmoush.

Another bonus is that their defending has improved of late. Palace are on a good run and still with hopes of European football. An away draw at Southampton is not inspiring though. Our main Manchester City v Crystal Palace prediction is Manchester City to win.
