Qualifier Maja Chwalinska will be out to crown a historic run at the 2026 French Open with victory in the final against eighth seed Mirra Andreeva. This match will mark the first career meeting between the two players. Both have dropped one set apiece so far, which points us to a grueling battle, and our prediction would be for the match to go all the way.
While Andreeva makes history as she reaches her first French Open final, Chwalinska is also an architect of her own bit of history. She has become only the second qualifier ever to reach the final at a major and indeed the first at Roland Garros.
The in-form Pole downed Diana Shnaider in her ninth game in Paris this season. She’s been on the court for 15 hours and 44 minutes at the French Open! Andreeva, the bookies' favorite, has only played eight hours. Her semi-final included earning a measure of revenge on Marta Kostyuk.

Maja Chwalinska - Mirra Andreeva: Form Analysis
Maja Chwalinska fought off 25th seed Diana Shnaider in the semis to secure victory in straight sets. The Pole, making her Roland Garros debut, has dominated her matches. Starting her race in the qualifying rounds, she’s only lost a set. Though she is the underdog again, she will derive her confidence from having registered 19 of her 29 victories on clay surfaces.
Chwalinska's only other tour appearance this year was at Cluj-Napoca. No other qualifier has ever made her way to the final in Paris, and Chwalinska’s run has had a huge impact on her world ranking. Starting things off ranked outside the top 100, she has catapulted a massive 93 places to a career-high world number 21 in the live ranking.
Chwalinska has been on the court for six more hours than Andreeva.
Andreeva is playing her first-ever final at a major. Like Chwalinska, the Russian has dropped just one set in her run to the championship match. A semi-finalist in Paris two seasons ago, Andreeva overcame the in-form Marta Kostyuk to make it this far.
Both finalists carry their own interesting narratives. At just 19 years old, Andreeva has become one of the youngest players to reach the final of a major in the WTA. A winner of two titles so far this season, Andreeva has compiled a dominant 35-9 record and is up to sixth in the live ranking.

Maja Chwalinska & Mirra Andreeva Squad Analysis
Chwalinska has a varied, skilled game, which often frustrates her opponents. Her main strengths are clever drop shots, pinpoint lobs, and solid groundstrokes. A left-handed player, she is also very agile on the court, which compensates for her weaker serve game.
Going into her 10th match in Paris, Chwalinska will welcome the two-day break, having admitted she’s physically drained. The 24-year-old had a strapping on her left thigh, one of the visible battle scars she’s picked up in the last two weeks.
The French Open will have a first-time champion this Saturday.
Andreeva will be reliant on both her history here and experience. While she is a tough opponent, Andreeva will be well aware of Chwalinska's capabilities. Her skill set has catapulted her to being one of the top players in the WTA.
The Russian is an aggressive baseliner who marries spin, height, and court positioning to unsettle her opponents. She showed this by dropping just four games against the in-form Marta Kostyuk last time out. The Ukrainian hadn’t lost a clay court match this season before facing off with Andreeva.

Chwalinska and Andreeva are having dream campaigns in the French capital and have blazed their paths to the final.

Maja Chwalinska vs Mirra Andreeva Alternative Predictions
Mirra Andreeva wins
For our second prediction, we will back Andreeva to win. Chwalinska has fought against the odds all through her run in Paris and has delivered. For the final, though, we feel she might come up short as she is up against the toughest and biggest opponent of her run.
The Pole has faced off with players ranked outside the WTA top 20 and is meeting a top 10 opponent for the first time. Andreeva, on her end, has battled against some of the WTA’s top players on her path to the final and has played fewer hours, which will favor her here.
