Lyon vs Marseille Prediction & Betting Tips - Ligue 1

Lyon are struggling to qualify for European competition next season and face a tough home game this weekend. They are currently seventh in Ligue 1 and host Marseille who are in second place. With seven games remaining, Lyon are five points adrift of Lille who occupy the Europa Conference League qualifying position. They are in good form though and have won each of their last three matches in Ligue 1. Of those wins, two have come against sides in the top six, including a 1-0 victory at leaders PSG for which Marseille would have been very grateful. Home form has seen Lyon win seven of their 15 home league games with three losses. They have been dropping some costly home points of late though with three of the last five drawn. Lyon are unbeaten in their last five home league fixtures since a poor run of two straight defeats in January.

Marseillle are currently eight points behind leaders PSG and with a vastly inferior goal difference. It's extremely likely the gap will be 11 points when this game starts. PSG travel to bottom-of-the-table Angers on Friday so the gap may well go into double figures. A Marseille title win is unlikely so clinching a Champions League place is their top priority. The top two automatically go into the group stages and Marseille are only a point clear of third place Lens and three ahead of Monaco. Lens face Monaco this weekend so a draw there wouldn't hurt Marseille too much. Only the top three go into the Champions League so Marseille really need something from this game. They are unbeaten in their last six league games since a home loss to PSG. Marseille have the best away record in Ligue 1 with 11 wins from 15 games with just one defeat at PSG in October. Ten away league games without defeat have been played since then with eight wins in a row before a draw at Lorient. Lyon is not an easy place to get a win and we go for a double chance bet on Marseille.
