World number 12 Elena Rybakina is up a place in the live rankings. This is her fifth WTA Tour clay court final. The 25-year-old made a steady start to this year's clay court season with two third rounds reached in Rome and Madrid.
It's gone much better for her in Strasbourg this week. Only one set has been lost in her three wins. That was the middle set in her semi-final victory over the ninth seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Liudmila Samsonova has won four of her five matches against Rybakina. However, this is their first meeting in a clay court tournament. Samsonova lost in the semi-finals here last year but has gone one round better in 2025 and made it to her first WTA Tour clay court final.
Reaching this final has taken her up a place to 18th in the live rankings. The Russian has had to win four matches this week but only third seed Paula Badosa has taken a set off her. The last four saw her beat unseeded Danielle Collins in straight sets.
