An Italian player will definitely be in the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters but it's not Jannik Sinner. We'll have either eighth-seed Lorenzo Musetti or unseeded Luciano Darderi who meet in round three. Time for our match prediction.

Lorenzo Musetti began his campaign in Shanghai with a straight sets victory over Francisco Comesana. He only lost four games in that match, all in the opening set. Musetti remains eighth in the live rankings and also the ATP Race. 

The 23-year-old has a 17-10 hard court record in 2025. Recently he was the losing finalist in the ATP Tour hard court tournament played in Chengdu.

The winner of this match will play either 12th-seed Felix Auger-Aliassime or unseeded Jesper De Jong in the last 16.

Luciano Darderi beat Bu Yuncaokete in his opening match. The 23-year-old won 6-4 6-4 and that was only his sixth win in 16 hard court matches played this year. Far better on clay, Darderi is in round three of a hard court tournament for only the third time in 2025.

He's 1-1 in previous matches against his compatriot but this is their first hard court meeting. Darderi has won four clay court tournaments this year and is 23rd in the live rankings. On this surface, we tip Musetti to win in straight sets.
