After sailing through the first qualifying round of the Europa League, Bulgarian side Levski Sofia is set to host Portugal’s Sporting Braga. These two face off in the second qualifying round, first leg on Thursday. We have a prediction for the match below.
Levski had to go through the opening round of the qualifiers, beating Hapoel Be’er Sheva on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw. They are unbeaten so far in the three matches played this season, and though lower ranked, the hosts will go into this game high in confidence.
Levski warmed up for the match with a 5-0 thrashing of league newcomers Montana in the Bulgarian topflight and are now unbeaten in 10 matches.
Braga are for the second season running, going into the Europa League qualifiers, after finishing fourth in the Portuguese league. A poor run towards the end of the Primeira Liga last season saw them miss out on an automatic league phase chance.
They played in the league phase last season and finished 25th. This time the Archbishops will be hoping for a better showing. With five wins from as many preseason friendly matches, Braga will feel ready for this.
After the disappointing end to the season, Carlos Vicens has taken over as manager and will be optimistic about his opening competitive game.
