World number 66 Mayar Sherif and world number 105 Kamila Rakhimova will square off next at the Morocco Open. Their second meeting in a week will be a semi-final tie with the winner playing Peyton Stearns or Viktoriya Tomova in the final. Kamila Rakhimova played her first full match in Rabat in the quarter-finals as she defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto 2-0. The Russian had seen her first two matches here end prematurely due to injuries to her opponents. Defeating the seventh-seeded Cocciaretto saw her advance to her second semi-final of the year. A win here will see her secure a first-ever tour-level final appearance. Rakhimova, who has compiled a shaky 14-15 record has registered eight of her wins in 13 outings on clay. She has moved up a massive 18 places in the live ranking to 87th.

Mayar Sherif defeated Rakhimova in straight sets on her way to finishing as runner-up at the Parma Challenger a week ago. As a dominant clay court performer, the Egyptian will be confident of doubling her advantage in this series here. Sherif, a one-time tour champion, has won over 180 matches on clay in her career. Both of her WTA final appearances have also come on clay. Playing predominantly on clay, the 28-year-old has recorded all 14 wins she has managed this season on the surface. Sherif, who is yet to lose a set in Rabat, defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo by the loss of six games in the last round. The win moved her to 60th in the live ranking and allowed her to progress to her first tour semi of the year.
