Jonny Clayton is the fifth seed in the 2025 World Matchplay Darts Championship. Round one of this tournament sees Claydon face unseeded German Martin Schindler. Can The Ferret from Wales win through? Read our match prediction.
Instead of the usual sets format, the winner of this match will be the first to ten legs. Whoever manages to do that will take on either 12th seed Dave Chisnall or unseeded Mike de Decker in the last 16.
Clayton was the runner-up at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool two years ago but his trip to the seaside in 2024 ended in round two. The world number five has won a title on both the European Tour and Players Championship. Even better, he got to the World Masters final and the last four of the UK Open.
It's going to be a tough match therefore for Schindler who is 18th in the world rankings list. The Wall is looking to avoid a fourth successive first round loss in this tournament. He's never made it past the last eight of a major televised PDC tournament.
