Thursday’s 2026 EuroVolley action will conclude with Italy taking on Sweden in Naples. Italy are ranked second in the world, and our prediction is that they will win this match fairly comfortably against 33rd-ranked Sweden.
Italy are seven-time European champions and the second-favourite to win the 2026 EuroVolley. Their most recent title came in 2021 before they were dethroned by Poland in the 2023 edition.
Gli Azzurri are also the reigning world champions, though they experienced a fairly disappointing 2026 Volleyball Nations League campaign, bowing out to the USA in the Round of 16.
Italy beat Turkiye to finish third at the Mediterranean Games last month and have won eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions since the start of August.
Meanwhile, Sweden are set to bring an end to a 33-year wait to return to the European Championships this week. Their best showing in the competition was winning silver way back in 1989.
Their return is the result of a major rebuild under Gido Vermeulen. They notched up an impressive five wins from their six European League matches, including a 3-2 victory over Estonia.
Sweden have won six of their last 10 matches across all competitions. This is the first competitive encounter between these nations since the 1989 final, which Italy won 3-1.

Our Italy vs Sweden Prediction
After a fairly disappointing Nations League campaign, in which they bowed out in the Round of 16, Italy will be looking to bounce back in this competition, and they arrive with good momentum, having won eight of their last 10 matches.
Sweden’s return to EuroVolley after over three decades is the result of a major rebuild under Dutch head coach Gido Vermeulen, but we feel they still have a long way to go before they can challenge an opponent of Italy’s pedigree. Our Italy vs Sweden prediction is Italy -2.5.
