Ireland W - Nigeria W: Form Analysis

Ireland have lost both their group matches to see their debut tournament end at the first hurdle. Vera Pauw's charges began the tournament by losing to co-hosts Australia by a solitary goal. They held their nerves for much of the game but were undone by a 52nd-minute penalty. In their second match against Canada, the Girls in Green took the lead inside four minutes through Katie McCabe. They would however fail to hold onto this lead and lost 2-1 with one of the goals being an own-goal. Ireland, ranked 22nd in the world, arrived for the tournament having won only once in 2023. They've now lost five of the seven matches played this year and have scored only three goals in this period.

Nigeria are on the verge of qualifying for the knockout rounds of a World Cup for only the third time in their history. The African nation will need to earn at least a point in this match to be completely assured of advancing. Randy Waldrum's charges are tied on four points with Canada but edge it out on goals scored. Nigeria have qualified for all nine editions of the World Cup and began this tournament with a 0-0 draw with Canada. Canada dominated much of the game but were unable to break Nigeria, even missing from the spot. Deborah Abiodun was dismissed late in the game. The Super Falcons would put up a better account of themselves on Match Day 2 against Australia. They won the match 3-2 after coming from 1-0 down. Nigeria are in fine form at the moment and are unbeaten in their last five games.

Ireland W & Nigeria W Squad Analysis

Katie McCabe made history by scoring Ireland's first-ever World Cup goal against Canada. The captain will fancy her chances of scoring again and helping Ireland sign off with a positive result. Others to look out for here are forwards Kyra Carusa and Sinead Farrelly. Megan Conolly was left devastated after scoring an own goal in the loss to Canada. She could be one of the bright lights in this match if given the opportunity to play as she will seek redemption.

Nigeria had to do without the suspended duo of Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimat Ayinde for their opener against Canada. They would return to boost the team against Australia. Deborah Abiodun would miss the match after her dismissal against Canada. The midfielder is back in the fray and will be available for selection against Ireland. Asisat Oshoala came on as a substitute and scored within 12 minutes of her introduction against Australia. Together with Osinachi Ohale and Uchenna Kanu, the three will seek to make goal-scoring impacts as they did against Australia.

Ireland W vs Nigeria W - Other Interesting Predictions

Under 2.5 goals

Another take for this match is for Under 2.5 goals. Ireland have struggled on the offensive end and have scored only one goal in their last three fixtures. Coupling this with Nigeria's defensive strength, Ireland could even end up without scoring here.

Draw at half time

Both teams have gone to the break in their respective two fixtures in Group B while level. As we foresee a low-scoring affair, this could be another match where the teams draw the opening half.
